Responsibilities are within the Legal Support Function as a generalist or in a combination of Disciplines

Job Summary

The Paralegal I is an entry level position that provides effective support in defined phases of the litigation or non-litigation process under the close supervision of an attorney. However, based on candidate qualifications we are open to hiring at all levels.

Job Description:

Job Level Summary

  • Requires basic skills in an operational process.

  • Works within clearly defined standard operating procedures and adheres to quality guidelines.

  • Works with close supervision.

Primary Accountabilities

  • Assists other paralegals in trial preparation.

  • Assists in drafting pleadings, discovery documents, motions, deposition summaries, abstracts, correspondence and legal memorandums under the supervision of an attorney.

  • Assists in the collection, organization, summarization and evaluation of medical records in the discovery process and for trial preparation.

  • Assists in the investigation and discovery under direct supervision.

  • Assists in drafting discovery responses.

  • Assists in representing insured or the company in small claims / conciliation court for defense or subrogation, if applicable by jurisdiction.

  • Assists in the review of files to determine issues, records needed and the possibility of settlement.

  • Assists in legal research using all available resources to identify the most current and applicable law.

Specialized Knowledge and Skills Requirements

  • Demonstrated experience providing customer-driven solutions, support or service

  • Demonstrated experience performing legal research, conducting investigations, gathering and summarizing medical records, indexing depositions, gathering evidence and preparing exhibits for trial.

  • Demonstrated experience preparing pleadings, motions, deposition summaries, discovery responses, and other legal correspondence.

  • Demonstrated experience with various PC software applications (e.g. Microsoft Office Suites, Internet Explorer, Outlook, Acrobat, FrontPage).

  • Demonstrated experience working with confidential documents and situations.

  • Solid knowledge and understanding of legal ethics rules and the ability to maintain a high level of confidentiality.

  • Solid knowledge and understanding of tort and contract law, legal procedures, legal terminology, and the judicial system.

  • Valid driver's license required plus an acceptable driving record.

Travel Requirements

  • This position requires travel up to 10% of the time.

Physical Demands

  • This position requires the ability to work with close vision (clear vision at 20 inches or less) for extended periods of time.

  • This position requires the ability to push up to 25 pounds between 33 and 66% of the time.

  • This position requires the ability to push up to 50 pounds between 1 and 33% of the time.


  • Associate Degree from a recognized paralegal program and two (2) years of legal experience; or a four year degree from a recognized paralegal program; or, a combination of five or more years of college education and work experience in a legal office/work environment.
