Our Los Angeles based client is a premier innovator and provider of public transportation services. The Los Angeles Metropolitan Transportation Authority is looking to add a Senior-level Engineer (Mechanical Engineer) to its organization.

The Senior Engineer will be responsible for the mechanical systems engineering design and construction of bus and rail maintenance and storage facilities. The mechanical systems include HVAC, plumbing, fire protection, and ventilation for rail underground and aboveground stations. The Senior Engineer will also oversee the design and construction work of mechanical systems performed by outside consultants and agency integrated project teams to ensure compliance with agency criteria, codes, and standards.

Requirements: Experience and Education

Bachelor's degree in Engineering, other related field or equivalent experience. A Master’s degree in Engineering, or other related field is desirable

Six (6) years of relevant experience in appropriate engineering discipline, including design and construction of public transit projects or major public agency projects

Preferred Qualifications

Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering

Licensed Professional Engineer within the discipline

Demonstrated knowledge of California Building Standards codes and ASHRAE standards pertaining to the design of commercial building systems (HVAC, Elevator, Escalator and Generator systems)

Experience conducting inspections of commercial building systems

Experience working in a public transportation environment

Essential Knowledge and Abilities

Theories, principles, and current practices of engineering analysis, design, and construction in appropriate discipline

Fundamentals of architectural, civil, structural, mechanical, electrical, vehicle, systems design, and environmental engineering as they relate to assigned engineering discipline

Engineering design codes

Applicable federal, state (Title 24), and local codes, standards, policies, procedures, and regulations

Reading and understanding plans, specifications, mechanical drawings, and diagrams

Serve as lead for in-house specialized engineering activities for bus and rail transit engineering projects from conception to completion

Monitor and evaluate work by consultants and construction contractors

Compile, analyze, and interpret complex data in order to prepare comprehensive reports and correspondence

Analyze situations, identify problems, and recommend solutions

Understand, interpret, and apply codes, regulations, specifications, and project contract agreements

Key Duties and Responsibilities

Plans, organizes, assigns, implements, and manages engineering projects in accordance with budget and schedule requirements

Provides engineering design services and design support during construction; provides support for project bid and award phase, construction management, closeout, activation, and startup activities for bus and rail transit projects

Reviews contract documents, shop drawings, specifications, RFI (request for information), and DDR (detailed design review) for compliance with codes, project specifications, and Metro criteria

Reviews designs for quality, constructability, and cost effectiveness; recommends design changes

Assures project compliance with design criteria and standards, workplans, safety guidelines, maintenance requirements, and operational needs

Updates and enforces the Metro Design Standards and Criteria

Makes field visits for research and inventory

Works with in-house engineering and construction disciplines, consultants, and/or contractors to identify and resolve problems which may impact the progress of the project or users existing or planned operational performance

Provides guidance, coaching, training, and oversees the work product of employees in area of expertise

Contributes to ensuring that the (EEO) policies and programs of Metro are carried out

The salary range for the Senior Engineer is HIN ($92,643 - $115,794 - $138,965). Salary placement will be determined by education and experience.
