Prehospital Resuscitation on Helicopter Study
-This study focused on prehospital resuscitation using blood products in helicopters.
-I observed the helicopter arrival of patients and live-capture of data: vitals, times, fluids, and life-saving interventions.

-Transcribed data into an electronic data capturing system.

As a research assistant, I’ve worked on three separate research studies.

1. Chest Tube Output and the need for Thoracotomy
Responsible for:
-Investigated the validity of a standard practice procedure whereby a patient requires urgent thoracic exploration immediately after placement of a chest tube when chest tube blood output exceeds 1000-1500 mL.
-Chart review and data extraction for qualified patients.
Impact:
-Once published I will be a coauthor.

2. Family Satisfaction in the Trauma and Surgical ICU
Under Dr. Matsushima’s guidance, our team investigated the relationship between family satisfaction and outcomes of critically ill patients in the Surgical ICU (SICU).
Responsible for:
- Screening families of trauma patients in the SICU.
- Gaining their willingness and approval to participate in this study.
- Conducting a survey in English and Spanish for those who participated.
Impact:
- The principle investigator orally presented the results in the 13th Annual Academic Surgical Congress, Jacksonville, Florida on January 31, 2018.
- Manuscript submitted for publication. Once published, I will be 3rd coauthor.

3. Cervical Spinal Clearance: A prospective Western Trauma Association Multi-Institutional Trial
-This was a prospective multicenter observational study looking at C-spine clearance for the blunt trauma patients who failed the NEXUS criteria.
-Processed and transcribed data from the participating hospitals.
