Job Summary

The Abatement Laborer will be a team member on the projects crew. They will identify and safely dispose of hazardous wastes. They will perform a wide range of physical labor tasks and work cooperatively with other members on the crew to ensure project goals are met.

    Duties and Responsibilities

  • Identify and remove hazardous waste such as asbestos, lead-based paint, oil, fuel, or contaminated soil.

  • Follows safety procedures to ensure cleanup is done properly.

  • Prepares hazardous materials for safe and legal transport.

  • Cleans equipment that may have been contaminated during removal process.

  • Assists crew members as assigned. This may include jobs such as demolition.

  • Unloads materials that are delivered and distributes them to appropriate location as identified by supervisor, project plans, or specifications.

  • Prepares layout area where abatement will take place by properly measuring, marking, or recording openings or distances. Properly prep the area.

  • Prepares tools and materials.

  • Cleans and prepares specific areas of jobsite as assigned. This may include cleaning up rubble, debris, trash, or removing hazardous materials.

  • Operates a variety of hand and power tools.

  • Directs traffic near, in, or around work zones.

  • Motions equipment operator to assist with alignment, movement, or adjustment of machinery, equipment, or materials.

  • Cleans jobsite at the end of the day, ensuring trash is properly disposed of and materials or equipment are properly stored.

  • Performs other related duties as assigned.

  • Able to listen to, understand, and follow directions.

  • Able to remain flexible as specific assignments change.

  • Able to work with a variety of personalities.

  • Able to perform basic math as needed to count and take inventory.

    Education and Experience

  • Prior job experience preferred.

  • Must have current certifications required to perform abatement.

  • Valid Drivers License.

    Physical Requirements

  • Ability to stand for prolonged periods of time.

  • Physically able to remove or clean up hazardous materials.

  • Must have physical strength, balance, hand-eye coordination, and stamina necessary to complete jobs in various areas.

  • Must be able to lift and carry up to 50 pounds and push and/or pull 50 pound loads at a time.

  • Must be able to work in all weather conditions.

  • Must be able to stand and walk up to 8 hours per day and climb multiple sets of stairs while carrying materials weighing between 40 to 50 pounds.

  • Must be able to work some weekends and at night, when needed.
